This is the second course in the graduate Functional Analysis sequence. We will
continue our study of spectral theory introduced last fall, and use the spectral theorem
and functional calculus to study
commutative C*-algebras. We will then examine general (not necessarily commutative)
C*-algebras, and study representations of C*-algebras, finite-dimensional
and approximately finite-dimensional (AF) C*-algebras, tensor products of C*-algebras,
and group C*-algebras.
